WSL West Coast Championships

This past weekend in steamy hot, hot Las Vegas, Nevada was the warmest temperatures I’ve ever seen in my 45 years of being around softball, temperatures reaching 110-115 degrees was the norm for the six days I was in Vegas. I give the teams, coaches, wives and kids a lot of credit for making it through this tournament. I will post the top two finishers for all the divisions later in this report. Greg Huchinson did try to help the teams by instituting a one hour time limit for all the games on Saturday and that helped. The time limit kept the tournament right on schedule all day Saturday. Sunday’s games all were played the distance, seven innings. I believe we were very lucky as only one player went down with a heat stroke, but was revived by the Henderson City rescue squad and was okay in a couple of hours. I know that playing in Vegas in August is not good. I also know that next years West Championships will be played in late October in Vegas with no time limit games, I guarantee you. The time limit just had to be done in this one for the safety of everyone concerned, believe me. The tournament in all divisions was very good. The competition in the C, D & E was so good that all three divisions were decided in the if game.

The B Division was won by Tharaldson Enterprises who went undefeated. Second place went to Texas Storm.

The C Division winner was Chariton Merchants. Second place went to Salscheider.

The D Division winner was FR Construction. Second place went to Wilson Creek.

The E Division was won by Miners/SO/Cal Roofing. Second place went to HLLK.

The Women’s Division winner went No Chit. Second place went to Tharaldson Enterprises.

The Co/Ed Division winner went to KKB/Spit On It. Second place went to Sweet Spot.

I will tell you all, there were some very happy teams who not only won their championships, but also won a great package from the WSL Miken Sports. Some of the prizes totaled over $6,000. Some awesome equipment was given to some of the winners along with some cash, as the WSL continues to give away the best prize packages in all of softball. I believe this West WSL/ASA Championship will grow and become as big as the Miken North American Championships in Panama City Beach, Fla.
